A community-owned public radio station broadcasting at 91.3 FM, operating as the flagship NPR member station for the Miami Valley region, including Dayton and Springfield, Ohio. The station signed on in February 1958 as a student and faculty outlet at Antioch College, initially running a 10-watt transmitter for four hours daily. Power expanded from 16 watts to 360 watts by 1960, and the introduction of permanent paid staff shifted its orientation toward broader community service. It moved from 91.5 MHz to its current frequency in 1980 and now broadcasts in the HD Radio format. Before NPR affiliation the station carried locally originated programming, including live Metropolitan Opera broadcasts and ad hoc anti-Vietnam War activist networks. It became an NPR member station in 1973, launching All Things Considered and eventually building a schedule that balances national public radio content with local journalism. The station has the distinction of being based in one of the smallest villages to host an NPR affiliate. Current local coverage spans Ohio state politics, community affairs, immigration policy, and arts and culture, with reporting on stories across the Miami Valley and the broader Ohio Newsroom collaborative.
