WRAK 1400 AM

A radio station licensed to Williamsport, Pennsylvania, broadcasting at 1400 AM with a News/Talk format under the brand name "The News/Talk Network." Owned by iHeartMedia, Inc. and licensed to iHM Licenses, LLC, the station serves north-central Pennsylvania and carries national news programming alongside local weather, traffic, and regional coverage. Programming includes national talk content distributed through the iHeartMedia network. The station carries one of the oldest broadcast histories in American radio. Its predecessor was first licensed on March 23, 1923, to the Economy Light Company in Escanaba, Michigan, with the WRAK call sign assigned from a sequential roster of available call letters. The station was deleted and reauthorized multiple times in its early years and relocated to Erie, Pennsylvania, by early 1928 under new ownership. Following the establishment of the Federal Radio Commission, the station navigated early regulatory challenges, including a 1928 General Order 32 notification questioning whether its license served public interest—a challenge it ultimately overcame. The FRC's major reallocation of November 11, 1928 moved the station to 1370 kHz. In March 1941, implementation of the North American Regional Broadcasting Agreement shifted WRAK and most other stations on that frequency to 1400 kHz, where it has remained since. The station now covers local and national news continuously, with programming covering topics including Pennsylvania state affairs, sports updates, and breaking national developments.
