Noncommercial educational radio station affiliated with a major research university and serving as the regional NPR member. Founded in 1963, the station began broadcasting seven years after the institution's establishment. Joined NPR's network in 1976 and became a pioneer of HD Radio technology in public broadcasting. The station operates 24 hours daily with news, information, and cultural programming from NPR and other public radio networks. In 2010, the station acquired a classical music outlet and utilized it to transition from mixed programming to dedicated NPR news and spoken-word content. Jazz programming, previously featured in evening hours, transitioned to online platforms in 2023.
