The station is owned and operated by Crista Ministries, a nonprofit Christian organization, with studios located in the Seattle suburb of Shoreline. The transmitter is situated on Cougar Mountain in Issaquah. The station also reaches Aberdeen, Washington via translator K221BG at 92.1 FM. KCMS broadcasts in HD Radio. The HD1 channel carries the primary Spirit 105-3 programming, while the HD2 channel simulcasts sister station KCIS 630 AM. As of 2018, the station held an 18th-place ranking in the Seattle-Tacoma Arbitron PPM ratings with a 2.5 percent market share. The station's history extends back to the late 1960s and early 1970s, when it operated as KBIQ and was among the most powerful FM stations on the West Coast, transmitting at 240,000 watts effective radiated power from a tower in north Seattle.
