A commercial FM radio station licensed to Lake Success, New York, operating with a rhythmic adult contemporary format directed at the New York City metropolitan area. The station is owned by iHeartMedia, with studios located at 125 West 55th Street in Midtown Manhattan and its transmitter positioned at the Empire State Building. The 103.5 MHz frequency has a long history in the New York market. It was first assigned in 1958 to Babylon, New York as WGLI-FM, simulcasting AM sister station WGLI and owned by William Reuman, founder of WWRL. The facility was acquired by Friendly Frost Inc. in 1960 and relocated to Lake Success, where the call sign was changed to WTFM in November 1961. Operating as WTFM, the station adopted the slogan "The International Stereo Sound of New York" and broadcast an instrumental-based easy listening format, later incorporating soft vocalists and rock-leaning material. By the 1970s, the transmitter was relocated to the Chrysler Building with a significant power boost. The station continued through multiple format and ownership changes over subsequent decades, including periods as a dance music outlet and various contemporary formats, before ultimately arriving at its current rhythmic adult contemporary positioning under the WKTU call sign. The call letters reference the station's earlier incarnation as a disco-era dance powerhouse, a format identity that shaped its brand recognition in the region. It remains one of the major commercial radio outlets serving the nation's largest radio market.
