Licensed to Mitchell, South Dakota on 1490 kHz, this AM station airs a full-service format combining news, talk, and sports programming. It is owned by Nancy and Steve Nedved through Nedved Media, LLC, which acquired the station along with sister stations KQRN and KORN-FM in late 2016 from Riverfront Broadcasting LLC. The station carries a blend of local and nationally syndicated programming. Syndicated talk content has included programs hosted by Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Ray Lucia, Jim Bohannon, and "Coast to Coast AM" with George Noory. Sports programming is sourced from ABC News Radio and Fox Sports Radio. The station serves as the broadcast home for Mitchell High School Kernels athletic events and holds the local affiliate agreement for South Dakota State Jackrabbits sports, primarily football and men's and women's basketball, through a Learfield Sports agreement. The station's history stretches to between August and October 1947, when it first broadcast under the call sign KMHK. It briefly used the call sign KORM in late 1950 before adopting KORN—a name chosen to capitalize on its association with the city's famous Corn Palace attraction, after those call letters became available from a Fremont, Nebraska station that had rebranded. A notable figure in the station's history is Gary Owens, the celebrated radio announcer and comedian known for his role on Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In, who began his radio career at the station in 1952, serving as News Director. In May 2006, the station received two first-place awards in the commercial radio division of the South Dakota broadcasting competition, recognizing its commitment to local service.
