Owned by Maria Ceniceros through licensee Viva Media, LLC, the station's studios are situated in Amarillo while its transmitter is positioned northeast of Channing, Texas, allowing it to serve the broader Amarillo metropolitan area. The Federal Communications Commission assigned the KBEX call letters on February 20, 2013. The call sign carries some historical distinction: prior to 2005 it was commonly used as a stock identifier for fictional broadcast outlets in film and television productions before its first real-world assignment to a station in Brenham, Texas, which held the calls from 2005 until 2008.
