A non-commercial public radio station licensed to a regional university and member of the National Public Radio network. Broadcasting at 100,000 watts with coverage extending approximately 75 miles, the station serves nearly 250,000 households across Northeast Texas. Programming includes National Public Radio's acclaimed news and information series, local news reporting focused on regional issues including education, environment, and economic development, original documentary podcasts investigating regional stories, and live broadcasts of local government proceedings. The station began operations in 1975 as a teaching laboratory for university journalism and mass communication students and relocated to new broadcast facilities in 2008. Additional programming features sports play-by-play broadcasts, outdoor recreation content, and specialized music programming including classical and jazz formats. HD Radio service was launched in 2023 with a dedicated triple-A music subchannel.
