Océano FM 93.9 is one of Uruguay's most iconic FM stations, with roots dating back to 1962 when it was founded as Emisora del Palacio by the Gioscia brothers, who also owned the Orfeo record label and the Palacio de la Música music store. As Uruguay's second FM station, it originally broadcast Muzak Corporation background music to offices and businesses. In 1992, the station was acquired by Compañía Uruguaya de Publicidad and rebranded as Océano FM. The station gained prominence with programs like "En Perspectiva" (launched 1985, hosted by Claudio Paolillo and Emiliano Cotelo) and Orlando Petinatti's "Malos pensamientos" (debuted 1991). Broadcasting from studios on Rambla Armenia facing Puerto Buceo, Océano FM currently features a primarily musical format with emphasis on classic oldies, blues, rock and roll, and Anglo music, while also offering news content through Telemundo.
