WGXC - Pond Station

The broadcaster operates as a media arts organization, primarily known for its commitment to experimental media and artistic practice. Its core function involves providing a platform for artists and fostering a unique environment for creative exploration. The station’s activities extend beyond traditional broadcasting, encompassing public art installations and residencies. The focus is on supporting artists through a residency program, offering them space and resources to develop their work. This work is then often presented to the public through various means, including video tours and installation portraits. The broadcaster's mission centers on cultivating a space for artistic innovation and community engagement. The station’s artistic residency program is a key component of its operations. In 2023, twelve artists-in-residence were selected, with their works displayed throughout the Wave Farm grounds. These installations are documented through video tours, directed by Patrick McCormack and made possible by SunCommon. Duane Peterson III served as editor, and Adam Deen operated the drone for aerial footage. Melissa Weaver created a watercolor map of the Wave Farm property. These visual records provide a comprehensive overview of the artists’ projects and the physical environment in which they are presented, allowing audiences to experience the art remotely. The station’s commitment to documentation underscores its dedication to preserving and sharing the creative process. The broadcaster's history is intertwined with its role as a facilitator for artistic expression. The Wave Farm Public Art Park serves as a tangible representation of this history, showcasing the work of numerous artists over time. The creation of the map by Melissa Weaver and the video tour, directed by Patrick McCormack, highlight the ongoing evolution of the space and the continued support for artists. The station’s milestones are marked by the successful completion of residency programs, the unveiling of public art installations, and the documentation of these events through visual media. The broadcaster’s dedication to these activities has solidified its reputation as a vital hub for experimental media and artistic innovation. The station’s operations extend to technical and community engagement aspects. The video tours of the artists’ installations are a significant element of this engagement, providing accessibility to a wider audience. The use of drone technology, operated by Adam Deen, demonstrates an embrace of contemporary media techniques. The support from SunCommon indicates a collaborative approach to funding and resource provision. The watercolor map serves as a visual guide to the Wave Farm grounds, further enhancing the visitor experience and fostering a sense of place within the artistic community. The broadcaster's commitment to these practices underscores its dedication to both artistic creation and public outreach.
