A commercial FM radio station licensed to Peekskill, New York, broadcasting in an adult contemporary format at 100 watts ERP — the station operates at the maximum 50,000 watts ERP. Owned by Pamal Broadcasting, WHUD is the flagship of Pamal's Hudson Valley cluster, with studios located on Route 52 in Beacon, New York, and the transmitter situated in Philipstown. The station is also the designated activator for the Hudson Valley Emergency Alert System. The station's history begins in 1957, when Highland Broadcasting — owner of Peekskill AM outlet WLNA — petitioned the FCC for a Class B FM allocation in the area, noting the absence of such signals between Poughkeepsie and New York City. After frequency negotiations involving nearby markets, 100.7 MHz was allotted to Peekskill on May 24, 1957. The station signed on October 24, 1958, as WLNA-FM, initially simulcasting its AM counterpart and generating revenue in part through a Muzak subcarrier service. On October 14, 1971, the call sign was changed to WHUD. The station increased power to 50,000 watts ERP in December 1971 and ended its AM simulcast the following February, launching stereo broadcasting with a beautiful music format. Over subsequent decades, WHUD evolved through several ownership changes and format refinements, ultimately arriving at its current adult contemporary identity. The station transitions to all-Christmas music programming for most of November and December each year.
