A commercial AM radio station broadcasting on 680 kHz with a 50,000-watt Class A non-directional signal, transmitting from facilities in Redwood City, California. The station's clear-channel signal reaches much of the western United States and, at night, extends as far as the Hawaiian Islands. KNBR and its affiliated station KTCT (1050 AM, San Mateo) are owned by Cumulus Media Partners, LLC — a private partnership of Cumulus Media, Bain Capital, The Blackstone Group, and Thomas H. Lee Partners. Both stations were acquired from Susquehanna Pfaltzgraff in 2005. For several decades, KNBR operated as the flagship station of NBC's West Coast radio network before transitioning to its current format. The station and its affiliates collectively brand themselves as "The Sports Leader." KNBR-FM (104.5 FM) has simulcast the station's programming since September 6, 2019. KTCT carried a distinct sports brand called The Ticket before being rebranded as a second KNBR outlet in 2003. Weekday programming is structured around daypart blocks, with the morning shows featuring Murph and Markus (Brian Murphy and Markus Boucher) and Papa and Silver (Greg Papa and Greg Silver). The afternoon drive slot features Dirty Work with Derek Papa and Adam Copeland, followed by the evening Sportsphone program. Live play-by-play coverage includes games for the San Francisco Giants, San Francisco 49ers, Bay Area Panthers, and Stanford Cardinal.
