A commercial AM radio station licensed to Newport News, Virginia, broadcasting on 1310 kHz and serving the Hampton Roads metropolitan area. Owned and operated by Max Media, the station airs a sports format under the brand "Fox Sports 1310," carrying programming primarily from Fox Sports Radio. A low-power FM translator at 100.9 MHz extends the signal under the designation W265EF. Studios and offices are located in Virginia Beach, with the transmitter sited in Hampton. The station holds the distinction of being the only broadcaster in Virginia to have retained a three-letter call sign, a legacy of its origins in the earliest years of commercial radio. First licensed on 940 kHz on December 6, 1926, under the call letters WPAB, it was reassigned to WGH and moved to 1310 kHz in 1928. Frequency shifts occurred with the implementation of the NARBA treaty in 1941, before returning to 1310 kHz in 1948. The initials WGH stand for "World's Greatest Harbor," a historical marketing slogan for the Hampton Roads or Tidewater region, home to major shipbuilding operations and commercial and military port facilities. For much of the 1960s and 1970s the station operated as a prominent top 40 outlet. Subsequent format changes included urban gospel, 1950s and 1960s oldies, urban talk, and business talk programming before the transition to sports radio in January 2023.
