WHMI FM 93.5

A commercial FM radio station serving the Howell, Michigan area with a Classic Hits format, supplemented by local news, sports, traffic, and weather. The station bills itself as "Livingston County's Own" and airs hourly news updates from ABC News Radio. It is owned by Rodney Krol through licensee Krol Communications Inc. WHMI has roots dating to 1957, when it launched as an AM station at 1350 kHz. The call letters have been associated with both "Howell, Michigan" and "Heart of Michigan," the latter a reference to a late-1950s promotional campaign positioning Livingston County as a desirable place to live. An FM signal at 93.5 MHz was added in September 1977, initially simulcasting the AM. The AM signal was silenced in 1995, after which the station operated solely on FM. Through the late 1990s, the music format evolved from hot adult contemporary into the current Classic Hits orientation. In 2001, the station relocated from its longtime Grand River Avenue studios to a facility at 1277 Parkway Drive in Genoa Township. Local sports programming includes dedicated high school athletics coverage, a daily sportscast, and features from multiple sports commentators.
