A noncommercial community radio station licensed to Wyoming, Michigan, operated by the Grand Rapids Community Media Center. Broadcasting since 1983, it began as an FM extension of a cable-based radio service that had served the Wyoming and Kentwood areas since 1978. Volunteer programmers draw from an eclectic library weighted toward folk, rock, blues, worldbeat, and jazz, with particular attention to local musicians. The license was originally held by Wyoming Community Education — the origin of the call letters — before transferring in 1987 to the Grand Rapids Cable Access Center amid concerns about student programming choices. Studios subsequently moved to the West Side Library near downtown Grand Rapids as the broader Community Media Center consolidated its operations. A transmitter upgrade in the late 1990s extended the signal, and FCC clearance in 2010 to expand power and coverage brought service to much of West Michigan including the Holland and Muskegon areas. Funding comes entirely from listener donations and local sponsorships, with no commercial advertising.
