Following multiple ownership changes throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the station transitioned to talk radio and eventually became part of iHeartMedia's portfolio in 1997 through Capstar Broadcasting Partners. In 2004, the call sign changed to KFBX to reflect its shift toward syndicated talk programming.
