A commercial radio station licensed to Dearborn Heights, Michigan, serving the Detroit metropolitan area, this outlet is owned by Birach Broadcasting Corporation and operates under the branded identity "Station of the Nations." It airs an ethnic brokered programming format, in which hosts pay for airtime and may advertise their clients' goods and services during their shows. Programming is broadcast in a variety of languages, including Arabic and several Eastern European languages. The station holds a technical distinction recognized by the FCC: it is the only AM radio station in North America that operates on two different frequencies, broadcasting at 690 AM during daytime hours and switching to 680 AM at night. Its transmitter is located off Will Carleton Road in Huron Charter Township, Michigan. The station signed on October 12, 1985, with Westland, Michigan as its original city of license. It relocated its license to Dearborn Heights by 1990. Original studios were situated at 21700 Northwestern Highway in Southfield. Birach Broadcasting has owned the station throughout its history. The Detroit market previously had a number of multi-lingual radio stations; 97.9 FM once aired a similar ethnic format under a comparable call sign and used the same "Station of the Nations" slogan until 1980 before converting to urban contemporary programming.
