Programming follows a classic hits format, drawing on popular music across several decades. Syndicated programming includes Nina Blackwood's "Absolutely 80s Spotlight" on weekdays and her full "Absolutely 80s" program on Saturday nights. Blackwood is recognized as one of the original MTV VJs from the network's launch era. The station's call letters date to June 1, 1997, when it signed on as KZCY. The current KRRR call sign was adopted on April 1, 2002. In July 2004, Appaloosa Broadcasting acquired the station alongside KRAE-AM (1480) and KREO-FM (105.3) from Mountain States Radio for a combined purchase price of $2.2 million.
