Radio Cultura 1290 AM

Radio Cultura AM 1290 (CX38) is Uruguay's public radio station dedicated to arts, culture, and education, operating as part of Radiodifusión Nacional del Uruguay (RNU) under the SECAN (Servicio de Comunicación Audiovisual Nacional). The station's history dates back to January 21, 1931, when it began as CX38 Radiodifusora Jackson in the grounds of the Sagrada Familia Chapel, founded by priest Ramón Puyal y Garanto with programming focused on classical and religious music. In 1936, SODRE acquired the station and redirected it toward cultural and educational content, even receiving the designation 'Radio Educativa' in the 1990s. Today, Radio Cultura broadcasts national music, cultural interviews, journalistic programs, and arts coverage from its studios in Ciudad Vieja at Peatonal Sarandí 430. The station serves as a vital platform for Uruguayan culture, featuring discussions on art, literature, theater, and society while maintaining its educational mission for nearly a century.
