About WCHC 88.1 FM

WCHC 88.1 FM streams live from Worcester MA, United States, on Tuninga Radio.

This radio station offers diverse programming.

A student-operated, non-commercial radio station licensed to and broadcasting from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, transmitting at 88.1 MHz with 100 watts of power. The station is among the older college radio operations in New England, having begun as a closed-circuit AM broadcast on December 6, 1948, under the guidance of the Rev. John Kelly, S.J., who broadcast himself under the on-air persona 'Father Pseudo.' The station originally operated at 640 AM before transitioning to FM broadcasting at 89.1 MHz at 10 watts during the 1970s. In 1988, following years of regulatory review, the FCC granted approval to increase transmitter power from 10 to 100 watts. The frequency shift to 88.1 MHz was required to avoid interference with WERS, the 4,000-watt Emerson College station at 88.9 FM in Boston. The upgraded signal allowed the station to reach most of the Worcester market. Programming is handled primarily by student volunteer DJs and spans a broad range of music genres including rock, classical, and contemporary styles, supplemented by talk programming covering sports, politics, and current events. The station carries live play-by-play coverage of Holy Cross Crusaders athletic events, including home football, basketball, and ice hockey games, and select away contests.
