WOON is the oldest radio station in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, having first broadcast on November 11, 1946, under the original call sign WWON. The station adopted its current call letters in February 1992. It operates on 1240 kHz at 1,000 watts on an unlimited-hours license, transmitting via a shared tower arrangement. The station follows a full-service format, blending news, talk, and music — primarily oldies and adult contemporary — throughout its broadcast day. Weekday programming opens with a morning host segment, followed by "Coffee An'", a roundtable discussion program the station bills as the longest-running panel discussion show in American radio. Additional weekday programming includes nutrition, nostalgia, astrology, old-time radio, and a midday music and interview block. Weekend schedules feature easy listening and oldies, along with sports broadcasts and programs produced in Portuguese, Polish, and Spanish for the area's multilingual communities. The station serves as the home broadcaster for Bryant University athletics and Woonsocket Villanovans sports. Beyond its primary AM signal, it operates several internet-only streams, including an all-news channel. WOON is owned by O-N Radio, Inc., and the majority of its programming originates locally, with a small number of nationally syndicated shows supplementing the schedule.
