这家电台提供多样化的节目。
A non-commercial public radio station originally licensed in Valdez, Alaska, that has served one of the most geographically expansive broadcast footprints in the United States. Through its main transmitter, two full-power FM repeater stations, and four low-power translators, the station covers an area comparable in size to the state of Ohio despite serving a population of just over 10,000 people. KCHU broadcast on 770 AM for nearly four decades before relocating to 91.3 FM in 2025 following ground erosion that threatened its main transmission tower. The relocation required the installation of a new tower and transmitter. Programming is repeated on KXKM (89.7 FM) in McCarthy and KXGA (90.5 FM) in Glennallen, along with four low-power translators that extend reach across the remote terrain of southcentral Alaska. The station carries a broad range of public radio programming from the National Public Radio and Public Radio International networks, including Morning Edition, All Things Considered, Fresh Air, The World, Democracy Now, American Routes, Beale Street, and World Cafe. In addition to national programming, KCHU produces local and statewide news and public affairs content, as well as music programs hosted by community volunteers, reflecting the independent civic character that defines many Alaskan community broadcasters. The KCHU call letters have a layered history: a short-lived community radio station in Dallas, Texas, operated under the same call sign from 1975 to 1977, and a television station in San Bernardino, California, used the calls from 1962 to 1964.
