WBTC is primarily an AM radio station broadcasting on 1540 kHz with a classic hits format, serving the Uhrichsville, Ohio area and the broader Tuscarawas County region. The station was founded in 1963 by James Natoli under his company, Tuscarawas Broadcasting, which held the license for decades until a sale in 2022. Natoli passed away on June 1, 2017. The station features locally oriented programming during weekday drive times, with Brad Shupe anchoring mornings and Nathan Cozart handling afternoons. Eddie Hawkins hosts a Saturday morning program. Under a prior talk format, WBTC carried locally produced programming including Dial-and-Deal with J.R. Richards and Dial-and-Speak with Dr. Andrea Fanti, described as the only call-in radio show in Tuscarawas County at the time, alongside nationally syndicated programs including The Rush Limbaugh Show and The Sean Hannity Show. The station had also been an affiliate of Fox Sports Radio for evenings and weekends. In October 2017 WBTC began transitioning to oldies programming in evenings and weekends, completing the full-time shift to classic hits that November. The 1540 kHz frequency presents a technical challenge: most AM stations on that clear-channel frequency in the northeastern United States are required to sign off at sunset to protect KXEL in Waterloo, Iowa and ZNS-1 in Nassau, Bahamas. WBTC holds an unusual five-watt nighttime power authorization, which historically led to voluntary sign-offs at 9:00 p.m. An FM translator at 101.9 FM (W270CI) was added in 2016, enabling round-the-clock programming. Effective July 8, 2022, Tuscarawas Broadcasting sold WBTC and the translator to WBTC Radio LLC for $50,000.
