A commercial AM radio station broadcasting at 590 kHz with a news and talk format, licensed to Spokane, Washington, and owned by iHeartMedia. The station is among the oldest broadcasting operations in Washington state, tracing its origins to 1922 when it went on the air in Seattle under the call letters KHQ. Studios and offices are located on East Sprague Street in Spokane, while the transmitter operates from East Sands Road in Spokane Valley. The station broadcasts at 5,000 watts using a non-directional antenna. Weekday programming consists entirely of nationally syndicated hosts, including Glenn Beck, Clay Travis and Buck Sexton, Sean Hannity, Joe Pags, Jesse Kelly, Clyde Lewis, and Coast to Coast AM with George Noory. Morning news is provided by This Morning, America's First News with Gordon Deal. Most hours begin with news from Fox News Radio. Weekend programming covers personal finance, health, home improvement, real estate, and law, featuring syndicated programs such as At Home with Gary Sullivan and Bill Handel on the Law. The station's original license was issued to Louis Wasmer in Seattle on February 28, 1922, assigned the randomly generated call letters KHQ. Wasmer was a former radiotelegraph operator who also sold radio equipment. The inaugural broadcast aired phonograph music each evening between 7 and 8:30 pm. KHQ was the second Seattle station licensed following the formal establishment of a broadcasting service category by the U.S. Department of Commerce in December 1921.
