Operating at 89.5 FM, this Class C1 non-commercial educational station holds a notable distinction as the world's oldest continuously operating dance music station. It is owned by Seattle Public Schools and run out of Nathan Hale High School, where professional staff supervise students in production, programming, music selection, copywriting, and on-air hosting as part of an electronic media curriculum. Alumni and non-student volunteers also contribute to regular programming. The format centers on current electronic dance music and Rhythmic Top 40 remixes, presented in a Top 40 structure, with specialty genre-specific programs airing after 6 pm covering house, industrial, trance, and related styles. Live programming includes a four-hour weekday morning show, the 15-minute midday segment known as the 8-Bit Work Break, a weekday drive program, and a new music showcase. The station broadcasts in HD Radio format and is one of six stations tracked by Nielsen BDS for Billboard magazine's weekly Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart. Funding comes primarily from listener pledge drives and corporate underwriting, as the station has operated largely outside its school district's annual budget since approximately 2002. In 2015 it became eligible for Community Service Grants from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The "C" in its on-air identity stands for Communications.
