A commercial AM radio station broadcasting at 1220 kHz from the Canyon Country neighborhood, KHTS operates as a full-service local broadcaster. The station is owned by Jeri Lyn Broadcasting, formerly known as Saddleback Broadcasting, and transmits at 1,000 watts during the daytime and 500 watts at night. It is simultaneously rebroadcast on FM translator K251CF at 98.1 FM. The station carries the nickname "Your Hometown Station," reflecting its emphasis on locally oriented content. KHTS debuted in June 1989 under the call letters KBET, branded as "The Beat of Santa Clarita" and founded by local television engineer Larry Bloomfield. The station's first chief engineer, Andrew Castiglione, notably made KBET the world's first digital, tapeless, and paperless radio station, earning recognition from Radio World Annual Magazine in February 1990. After Canyon Broadcasters filed for bankruptcy in July 1990, Carl Goldman and Jeri Seratti Goldman assumed operational control in late 1991, eventually forming Saddleback Broadcasting. Programming consists of a mix of locally produced talk shows, time-brokered programs, and community-focused sports coverage. Local sports broadcasts include play-by-play for several high school football and basketball teams as well as the College of the Canyons football program. Professional sports affiliations include the Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Kings, and NASCAR. The station has received recognition from the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce, including the Small Business of the Year award in 1995.
