An internet radio outlet serving the Eritrean diaspora through programming in Tigrinya, one of the principal languages of Eritrea. The service operates outside Eritrea itself, where all domestic broadcast media are state-controlled by the Ministry of Information and independent or foreign ownership of media outlets has been prohibited since the early 2000s. Eritrea maintains one of the most restrictive media environments in the world, consistently ranked at or near the bottom of international press freedom indices compiled by organizations such as Reporters Without Borders and Freedom House. Within the country, the government operates four newspapers, a single television channel, and two radio stations. Given this context, diaspora-oriented outlets broadcasting in Tigrinya play a role in reaching Eritrean communities internationally with content in their native language. Tigrinya is spoken by a substantial portion of Eritrea's population and is one of the country's two working languages alongside Arabic.
