A non-commercial FM station licensed to Takoma Park, Maryland, owned by Atlantic Gateway Communications Inc. and broadcasting a Christian adult contemporary music format. Its studios are located in Rockville, Maryland, while its primary transmission tower is sited near Arlington, Virginia; a repeater, WGBZ at 88.3 MHz, extends coverage to the Ocean City, Maryland area. The station's callsign reflects the motto of Washington Adventist University, whose campus in Takoma Park is where the station was founded. WGTS began in 1957 as a 10-watt campus broadcaster operating from the men's dormitory at what was then Washington Missionary College. Power increased to 10,000 watts in 1960 and again to approximately 29,500 watts in the mid-1960s. In 2004, the transmitter relocated from Takoma Park to Arlington, lowering power while improving regional reach. A new broadcast ministry center opened in Rockville in 2019, providing 13,000 square feet of facilities including two on-air studios, three production rooms, and a television studio—replacing a 3,000-square-foot World War II-era facility on the university campus. In 2007, Washington Adventist University considered selling the station to American Public Media for an offer in the range of $20–$25 million, a move that drew significant public opposition from listeners invested in the Christian format. The university's board voted in September 2007 to halt sale discussions, and the station remained under its existing structure before transitioning to Atlantic Gateway Communications.
