A non-commercial FM radio station broadcasting on 89.9 MHz, licensed to Rochester, Minnesota, and the only locally owned and programmed station in that city. Operated by Rochester Public Radio, the station is a member of AMPERS, the Association of Minnesota Public Educational Radio Stations. Studios are located at 2630 South Broadway, Suite 500, with a transmitter positioned east of the city. The station first went on air in 1975 under the ownership of Rochester Community and Technical College. During the 1980s it featured a New Wave, punk rock, and hard rock format, with live listener call-in request programs that frequently highlighted Minnesota acts including The Suburbs, Husker Du, The Phones, Chameleon, Slave Raider, Prince, The Time, and The Replacements. The station's orange and black bumper stickers became a recognizable presence throughout southern Minnesota during that era. By the late 1990s, the station had transitioned to a classic rock and album-oriented rock format and was sold to Rochester Public Radio, which has operated it since.
