A non-commercial student-managed FM radio station licensed at 90.3 MHz, operated by the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The station first went on air on April 20, 1966, at 6 p.m., initially broadcasting at 88.1 FM with only 10 watts of power for four hours each weeknight. The call letters stand for "Radio Station of the Titans," a reference to the university's athletic teams; the originally intended call sign WSUO was already in use by another broadcaster. The first song played on air was "Monday, Monday" by The Mamas and the Papas. The station was established as part of a broadcast media program launched by Dr. Robert "Doc" Snyder, who joined the university in 1964. Early studios were housed in the Fuller Goodman Lumber Company with an antenna on the Gruenhagen Conference Center roof. In 1971 the operation moved to the Arts and Communication Center, and in 1973 the frequency shifted to 90.3 FM while power increased from 10 to 960 watts. In 1992, an affiliation with the Wisconsin Public Radio Ideas Network was established to fill programming gaps during academic breaks and class hours. The station began online streaming on April 5, 2005. Current programming includes a weekday jazz program, The Jazz Wire, broadcast from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., and The Shuffle, an alternative and eclectic music program running weekday evenings and Saturdays. The station is part of UW-Oshkosh's Radio TV Film academic program.
