A community radio station licensed to Ocracoke, North Carolina, operated by Ocracoke Community Radio, Inc. and airing a variety format encompassing music, news, and local public affairs programming. The station also streams its signal online, extending reach beyond its FM coverage area. The station was founded in 2007 by island volunteers and began as an online-only outlet before receiving its FCC license on November 10, 2010. Its original studio overlooked Silver Lake, a characteristic harbor in the community. In 2016, operations relocated to a historic fire station. Serving part of North Carolina's Outer Banks, the station plays a significant role during weather emergencies, continuing to broadcast via generator power during major storms including Hurricane Florence in 2018. The station faced a significant setback in October 2016 when Hurricane Matthew destroyed its transmitting tower, forcing it off the air for approximately one month. Volunteers worked to restore the FM signal while continuing to stream online with backup power. The following year, in November 2017, a new 70-foot tower was installed with a custom-built directional antenna, allowing the signal to reach as far as the Hatteras Inlet, approximately 25 miles away. The expansion substantially broadened the station's coverage across the Outer Banks region, enabling it to serve both permanent residents and seasonal visitors to the barrier island community.
