A community radio station established in 1978 serving the Northern California Sierra foothills and greater Sacramento Valley. Originating from a small 20-watt operation on Banner Mountain broadcast four hours daily, the station expanded to 24-hour programming by 1981. Now equivalent to 6,000 watts output at sea level, it broadcasts on 89.5 FM with translator signals on 93.9 FM in Woodland, 105.1 FM in Truckee/Tahoe, 88.3 FM in Camino/Placerville, 99.5 FM in Angels Camp, and 105.7 FM as KVMRx featuring contemporary music formats. Over 700 volunteers support the station's operations, with approximately 40,000 unduplicated listeners two-thirds residing outside Nevada County. The station operates as the official emergency broadcast outlet for Nevada County and provides online streaming worldwide.
