An independent radio network operating across the state of Vermont under the name The Point, with flagship station WNCS at 104.7 FM in Montpelier. The station signed on in 1977 and was founded by Jeb Spaulding, who subsequently served as Chancellor of the Vermont State Colleges, State Treasurer of Vermont, and Secretary of Administration under Governor Peter Shumlin. The Point's programming format has been adult album alternative (AAA) and progressive rock throughout its entire history, predating the formal recognition of the AAA format. All stations in The Point network are owned by Montpelier Broadcasting Inc., which is in turn owned by Northeast Broadcasting, Inc., headquartered in Bedford, New Hampshire. The network broadcasts on five FM frequencies covering Vermont and adjacent areas. The station has received substantial industry recognition over its history. It won the trade publication Radio and Records' AAA Station of the Year (markets 101+) award in 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008 — the final year that publication operated. In 2008, The Point was inducted into FMQB's Hall of Fame for AAA Stations in markets 51 and smaller, and in 2013 was named FMQB's AAA Station of the Year for markets 50 and under. The network previously carried programming on WRJT (103.1 FM) in Royalton from 1996 until that station was sold to Educational Media Foundation in 2020, at which point it was converted to the K-Love format. WFAD (1490 AM) in Middlebury also previously carried The Point's programming.
