A commercial FM radio station operating on 97.7 MHz, licensed to Mojave, California, and serving the Antelope Valley region of Southern California. The station is owned by RZ Radio LLC and broadcasts a country music format under the branding "97-7 KTPI" and "The AV's Best Country." Studios are located on East Avenue K-4 in Lancaster, while the transmitter is situated off Prospect Road at 20th Street in Mojave. The station serves the communities of Lancaster, Palmdale, Rosamond, and the Mojave area. The station signed on August 1, 1967, originally under the call sign KDOL-FM, simulcasting AM sister station KDOL with a country format. In 1984, the simulcast ended and the station adopted an automated Top 40 format. Chambers Broadcasting purchased the station in July 1985. Following ownership by Antelope Broadcasting, the station operated under the KAVS call sign and aired modern rock formats beginning in 1995, at one point simulcasting with KYHT (105.3 FM) as "High Desert Modern Rock." In September 1998, Antelope Broadcasting sold the station to Jacor Communications for $4 million as part of a three-station deal. Jacor was subsequently acquired by Clear Channel Communications. Under Clear Channel ownership, the station simulcast the Top 40 format of Los Angeles-based KIIS-FM. The station later adopted its current KTPI call letters and returned to a country music format, operating in that format for over four decades and positioning itself as the heritage country music station for the Antelope Valley.
