Licensed to Medford, Massachusetts, and owned by Tufts University, this freeform station is operated jointly by students and community members from the third floor of Curtis Hall on the Tufts campus. Funding comes through the Tufts Student Activities Fee as allocated by the TCU Senate and through community donations, keeping the station financially independent from commercial pressures. The station maintains a strict freeform philosophy, imposing no content restrictions on its air staff beyond FCC requirements for content, station identification, and public service announcements. Musical programming ranges widely across genres including rock and its subgenres (hard rock, punk, glam, garage, indie, goth, rockabilly, psychobilly, and metal), contemporary Jewish music, blues, reggae, folk, easy-listening, hip-hop, dance, jazz, and classical. Spoken word programming includes humorous shows, political talk, sports talk, and community issues segments. The station houses Studio A as its main broadcast studio, Studio Dee — named for late Boston music writer and former DJ Mikey Dee — as a live performance space, and Studio B for professional mixing, recording, and effects processing. Studio C serves as a secondary broadcast and production studio. The station maintains an extensive vinyl collection, portions of which were destroyed in a 1977 fire but later rebuilt through community donations. The transmitter is located atop Ballou Hall, broadcasts directionally to the east, and operates at an effective radiated power of 125 watts. As a condition of its FCC license, a portion of the weekly schedule is reserved for volunteer DJs from the local community.
