A country music radio station operating at 106.3 MHz, licensed to Middleton, Wisconsin and serving the Madison metropolitan area. Owned and operated by Mid-West Family Broadcasting, the station has maintained a country music format since 1981, making it one of the longer-running country stations in the Upper Midwest. The station signed on in 1970 as WMAD-FM under Hudson Broadcasting, initially simulcasting with country-formatted WMAD at 1550 AM. Early slogans included "The Country Giant" and "Music of America." After a period of format experimentation — including Top 40 rock from 1978 — the station returned to country in 1981 and has retained that format since. In November 2008, the station expanded its reach with a simulcast on WWQN at 106.7 FM, covering Iowa County and western portions of Dane County. That simulcast arrangement concluded in December 2011 when WWQN shifted to carrying talk station WTDY. In July 2009, program director John Sebastian rebranded the station as "Q106.3" or simply "The Q," broadening the playlist to include vintage country songs alongside pop and rock tracks with crossover appeal, while reducing DJ talk time in favor of more music. The station promotes a concert calendar featuring country and Americana artists performing in the Madison area, and operates a listener loyalty program called Q Country Club. It also maintains a mobile app for streaming and event updates.
