WVLK is a commercial AM radio station broadcasting at 590 kHz under a news and talk format, owned by Cumulus Media. Studios are located inside Kincaid Towers on West Vine Street in downtown Lexington, Kentucky. The transmitter is situated on Leestown Road in the city's northwest quadrant. Daytime power is 5,000 watts, reduced to 1,000 watts at night via a directional four-tower antenna array to protect co-channel stations. Programming is also carried on FM translator W247CT at 97.3 MHz with 250 watts. The station signed on November 26, 1947, originally licensed to Versailles, Kentucky, at 1,000 watts. Its founding ownership, the Bluegrass Broadcasting Company, was led by former Kentucky governor and U.S. Senator A.B. Chandler. WVLK launched as a Mutual Broadcasting System affiliate during radio's golden era, carrying the network's news, drama, and comedy programming. Studios relocated to Lexington in 1951, first to the Lafayette Hotel and later to the Phoenix Hotel on Main Street. Weekday programming opens with a local morning news program and includes additional locally produced afternoon drive shows. The remainder of the schedule is filled with nationally syndicated content from Westwood One and other distributors, featuring conservative talk and commentary. Weekend programming shifts to lifestyle-oriented specialty content covering topics such as personal finance, health, gardening, real estate, and technology, alongside syndicated programs including The Kim Komando Show. Most broadcast hours include updates from Fox News Radio.
