Wyoming Public Radio (WPR) is a statewide public radio network licensed to the University of Wyoming, with its headquarters located in Knight Hall on the main campus in Laramie. Despite being a university licensee, the network does not produce student-derived programming and instead operates as a professional public broadcasting service. Its local output, produced from the Laramie campus, consists primarily of news coverage and music programming spanning jazz, classical, and adult album alternative formats. The network supplements its locally produced content with a broad range of syndicated programming from National Public Radio, the Public Radio Exchange, Native Voice One, and American Public Media, including flagship programs such as Morning Edition, All Things Considered, and BBC World Service. WPR also produces Classical Wyoming, a dedicated 24-hour classical music service available on analog frequencies in Laramie, Rock Springs, and Lander, as well as on HD-2 channels across the state. The network sustains its operations primarily through semi-annual on-air pledge drives held each fall and spring. WPR holds the distinction of being the only public radio network produced entirely within Wyoming, though other regional public radio services — including Yellowstone Public Radio, KUER-FM, KUNC, and KUVO — also provide coverage to portions of the state. The network traces its origins to KFBU, historically recognized as Wyoming's first radio station, which began broadcasting from St. Matthew's Cathedral in Laramie on October 3, 1922, with a 10-watt signal operated by University of Wyoming engineering student Warner N. Crosby. WPR was formally established in its current form in 1966.
