A non-commercial public radio station operating at 102.1 FM, owned and operated by Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and broadcasting at 50,000 watts effective radiated power. WMUK holds charter membership in both National Public Radio and the Michigan Public Radio Network and is additionally an affiliate of Public Radio International. The station shifted to a full news and talk format during daytime hours in January 2020, adding programs such as On Point, The Takeaway, 1A, Fresh Air, and The Daily alongside existing NPR staples Morning Edition, All Things Considered, and Marketplace. Jazz programming continues overnight. Classical music moved to the station's HD2 subchannel and simulcasts on Kalamazoo Public Schools-operated WKDS 89.9 FM. WMUK is one of two Kalamazoo stations broadcasting in HD Radio. Local news coverage addresses community affairs across southwestern Michigan, including stories on tribal governance, business, higher education, and arts. The station produces regular features and interview segments in addition to airing nationally distributed NPR content.
