A non-commercial public radio network based in Fresno, California, operating as the only national distributor of Spanish-language public radio programming in the United States. Founded in 1976 by Hugo Morales along with Latino activists, farmworkers, and community members, it became the first full-power FM station to deliver culturally and socially relevant news and information to the Spanish-speaking population of California's Central Valley. The network's flagship news service, Noticiero Latino, provides independently produced Spanish-language journalism, while the nationally distributed daily talk program Línea Abierta serves as a forum for Latino communities across the country. Programming also encompasses a broad range of Spanish-language folk music with particular emphasis on Mexican folk traditions and Afro-Caribbean rhythms. Operating through a satellite distribution system branded as Satélite Radio Bilingüe, the network reaches stations across the continental United States, Puerto Rico, and Mexico. Funding partners have included the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the California Arts Council. The organization operates with a full-time staff and an annual budget dedicated entirely to public service for low-income and underserved Latino populations.
