A non-commercial, self-managed community radio station operated by Radio-Initiative Dresden e.V., a registered association. Broadcasting has been continuous since 8 July 1993. As of 1 March 2007, the station transmits on two low-power frequencies at 50 and 100 watts, covering approximately 49 hours per week: Monday through Friday from 6 to 11 p.m. CET and Saturday and Sunday from noon to midnight. Programming is also available via internet livestream. Frequencies used are 98.4 and 99.3 MHz. Content is organized into four main categories: magazines, music, politics, and art and culture. The majority of programming is broadcast monthly and presented in German, though some programmes air in other languages including English, Czech, Spanish, and Chinese. Editorial governance operates through a plenum composed of broadcasters and association members, with no designated chief editor role. The station relies on volunteer staff, a structure designed to preserve editorial independence. The station identifies as emancipatory radio and holds membership in the Bundesverband Freier Radios, the national association of free radio stations in Germany. Its monthly publication is called Transmitter. In a notable dispute over transmission costs, the station was taken off FM by Media Broadcast from 17 April to 13 May 2010, alongside fellow Saxon community stations Radio Blau in Leipzig and Radio T in Chemnitz.
