Licensed to Emporia, Kansas, and owned by Emporia's Radio Stations, Inc., this outlet broadcasts a country music format at 101.7 MHz FM under the branding "Country 101.7 FM." The station's history begins on May 2, 1985, when it launched under the call letters KEGS. The "GS" in that identifier reflected the initials of Greg Steckline of Steckline Communications of Wichita, the station's original licensee. The KVOE-FM call letters had a prior history in Emporia: an earlier station used them on 104.9 MHz from 1966 to 1975, after which they became available for reuse. On August 30, 1994, the station transitioned from KEGS to KVOE-FM at 101.7 MHz under its current ownership. The station has earned repeated recognition from the Kansas Association of Broadcasters, including Station of the Year in 2005, KAB Website of the Year in 2011, and the Tony Jewell Community Service Award in 2010. In April 2012, the station's general manager accepted the Crystal Radio Award from the National Association of Broadcasters, an honor given to ten radio stations nationally. Community involvement is central to the station's operations. It organizes an annual Drive for Food campaign in partnership with The Salvation Army, collects non-perishable items for local food pantries, and hosts a radio auction benefiting the National Teachers Hall of Fame. The station carries Kansas State Wildcats football and basketball, Kansas City Chiefs games, and area high school sports, along with a regular coaches' program throughout the week.
