A commercial FM radio station owned by Saga Communications and operating as part of its Des Moines Media Group, the station airs a classic hits format from studios at 1416 Locust Street, a facility shared with several other Saga properties including KSTZ, KAZR, KOEZ, KRNT, and KPSZ. The transmitter is situated off 24th Street SE near 6th Avenue SE in Altoona. The station broadcasts in HD Radio hybrid format, with an HD2 subchannel carrying a Top 40 (CHR) format branded as "HITS 99.9," which is also simulcast on FM translator 99.9 K260AM in Des Moines. The 93.3 MHz frequency has a history stretching back to September 18, 1964, when it signed on as KWDM. Founded by George Webber, who had previously established the original KWDM at 1150 AM, the FM outlet initially featured block programming including classical, operatic, and ethnic music, supplemented by Drake University sports and a weekday talk program. In 1968, Webber sold the station to the SEQ Corporation, which relocated the studios and shifted the format through rock, country, and talk iterations. A syndicated talk show called "Hawkeye Nightline" hosted by Russ Lavine aired during the SEQ era. The station later passed through additional ownership changes before arriving at its current classic hits presentation under Saga Communications. A morning program hosted by Luke and Jeriney is available on-demand through the station's mobile application.
