A non-commercial community radio station licensed to Dallas, Texas, operating at 89.3 FM with an effective radiated power of 55,000 watts. The station is owned by Agape Broadcasting Foundation, Inc. and identifies itself through the call sign etymology as "KNON" for noncommercial. It serves the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, with its transmitter located on West Belt Line Road in Cedar Hill and its studios and offices on Colt Road in Dallas near Interstate 635. Funding derives from on-air pledge drives, local small business underwriting and sponsorships, and benefit events. The station's origins trace to KCHU, a non-commercial broadcaster that debuted on August 29, 1975, at 90.9 MHz before going off the air in 1977 due to financial difficulties. The 90.9 frequency was transferred to Agape Broadcasting as KNON in 1979, though the station remained silent through 1980. In the mid-1980s, pressure from multiple applicants—most prominently Criswell Bible Institute, which operated KCBI-FM at 89.3 MHz—led to FCC proceedings regarding the 90.9 frequency. The outcome was a swap of frequencies between KCBI and KNON completed in May 1988, placing KNON at its current 89.3 MHz position. Programming is driven by volunteer disc jockeys who play their own music selections or host talk programs, resulting in an eclectic format spanning multiple genres. The station has a noted history of hosting unconventional programming, including the long-running Church of the SubGenius radio program.
