An AM radio station operating at 1270 kHz, serving the greater Cumberland metropolitan area in western Maryland. The station provides local, regional, and national news coverage, weather forecasts, and remote broadcasts from community events. It was founded in 1953 under the call sign WKYR, originally licensed to Keyser, West Virginia. In 1965 it was granted full-time status and its city of license was changed to Cumberland; the current call letters WCBC were adopted in 1976. Programming includes the long-running Dave Norman Morning Program and national talk radio content through several network affiliations, including ABC Radio Network, Westwood One, Premiere Networks, and Talk Radio Network. Syndicated hosts carried by the station have included Sean Hannity, Jim Bohannon, Dave Ramsey, Mark Levin, George Noory's Coast to Coast AM, Laura Ingraham, Michael Savage, and Focus on the Family programming. Sports coverage is a significant part of the schedule, encompassing local high school football and basketball, Allegany College of Maryland basketball, West Virginia University football and basketball, Washington Commanders football, and area Little League baseball. The station also operates an FM sister station, WCBC-FM at 107.1, licensed to Keyser, West Virginia, with a classic hits format. In 2007, the station's owner, Cumberland Broadcasting Corporation, joined the Maryland Delaware DC Broadcasters Association in filing a federal lawsuit against the Allegany County Board of Education, citing First Amendment violations related to the denial of media access to public information.
