A VHF FM station operating as part of NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards, a national automated network broadcasting continuous weather information in the United States directly from nearby National Weather Service offices. The network operates on designated VHF frequencies in the 162 MHz band and provides around-the-clock programming covering local and regional weather forecasts, coastal and marine conditions, climate summaries, and hazardous weather outlooks. Beyond routine meteorological programming, NOAA Weather Radio functions as an all-hazards alert system, carrying broadcasts from the Federal Communications Commission's Emergency Alert System. These alerts extend to non-weather emergencies including Amber alerts, civil emergencies, evacuation orders, natural disaster information, and environmental and public safety notices. Automated broadcast technology allows segments to be recycled and updated continuously across the transmitter network, enabling consistent and timely information delivery. The network's origins trace to 1960, when the U.S. Weather Bureau began experimental VHF marine weather broadcasts in Chicago and New York City. Following the success of these pilots, the service expanded to coastal regions in the 1960s and early 1970s, eventually growing to cover the entire continental United States.
