An NPR member station operated through a partnership between Colorado Public Radio (CPR) and Colorado College, which owns the license. CPR is a nonprofit public radio network headquartered at the Bridges Broadcast Center in Centennial, Colorado, whose combined signal reaches approximately 80 percent of the state via 15 full-power stations and 17 translators. The network broadcasts three distinct services: a news service, a classical music service, and an adult album alternative service branded as Indie 102.3. The organization traces its origins to KCFR (90.1 FM) in Denver, which launched in 1970 under a license held by the University of Denver. The station began carrying National Public Radio programming in 1973, initially with All Things Considered, followed by Morning Edition in 1979. KCFR separated from the university in 1984 to become a community-licensed station, and in 1991 merged with KPRN in Grand Junction to form Colorado Public Radio. As of 2013, CPR reported 440,000 weekly listeners, 47,000 contributing members, and annual revenue of approximately $14 million. This station focuses on Southern Colorado coverage, delivering local news reporting on topics including environmental policy, water resources, and community affairs. In early 2019, CPR expanded its digital presence by acquiring the hyperlocal news outlet Denverite. The organization is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, with approximately 95 percent of its budget funded through private support from listeners, corporations, foundations, and partner organizations.
