A noncommercial student-run college radio station licensed to Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, broadcasting at 91.1 FM and reaching the Mid Coast region of the state. The station's call letters stand for "W-Bowdoin-On-Radio," reflecting its origins in campus broadcasting activity that dates to at least 1941, when Bowdoin students and faculty began producing programs recorded on campus and aired through commercial Portland and Bangor outlets. The station's formal campus presence developed in the late 1940s through a program called Bowdoin-on-the-Air, which included a Radio Drama Workshop producing original student-written productions. A dedicated on-campus AM studio opened in December 1949 following a $4,000 gift from the Class of 1924, equipped with a transmitter and a direct line to WGAN in Portland. The station eventually transitioned to its current FM license at 91.1 MHz, housed in Coles Tower on the Bowdoin campus. DJs are drawn primarily from the full-time student body, though faculty, staff, and community members also host weekly programs. In addition to FM broadcast, the station streams online and is accessible through TuneIn-compatible platforms including Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, smart speakers, and gaming consoles.
