A low-power FM student radio station broadcasting at 99.1 MHz in Bloomington, Indiana, operated by Indiana University Student Broadcasting under the slogan "Pure Student Radio." The station is run entirely by student volunteers enrolled at Indiana University with no paid employees or faculty supervisors. Programming is aired on 99.1 FM and through an online-only stream called "B-Side." Station governance is carried out by a student board of directors elected each spring, overseeing committees covering music, public relations, marketing, programming, news, special events, sports, and engineering. The station traces its origins to 1963, when WQAD, a carrier-current AM station, was founded in Wright Quadrangle at Indiana University. A second carrier-current station, WFQR, was established in Foster Quadrangle in 1964, later renamed WIN in 1965. The two stations merged in September 1967 and have operated under various call signs since. WIUX-LP was granted a low-power FM license and moved to the 99.1 FM frequency in subsequent decades, expanding its reach beyond the campus carrier-current system. Content produced by WIUX includes music coverage across a wide range of genres, local concert reviews, film criticism, and regular audio programs such as its monthly Continental Breakfast editions. The station has covered local music scenes including shoegaze, indie rock, and experimental music, reflecting the eclectic programming philosophy typical of student-run noncommercial radio.
