A college radio station operating at 500 watts during the day and 26 watts at night, broadcasting on the AM band from a transmitter site in Enumclaw, Washington. Licensed to the Green River Foundation and operated by Green River College, the station carries a classic alternative format and is known by the branded name KGRG1. Its low nighttime power output is significantly constrained by interference from KKPZ Portland and, in some areas, CJYM Rosetown, Saskatchewan, limiting reliable nighttime reception largely to the Enumclaw vicinity. Despite this, the station has been reported heard in California and Oregon, and staff have received correspondence from listeners claiming reception as far as Kansas and even Scandinavia under favorable propagation conditions. The station traces its origins to 1982, when it launched as KENU with a country music format under local Enumclaw ownership. A brief 23-day experiment with a hard rock format under the KQZQ call sign in 1988 ended when listener demand restored the KENU identity. In 1992, KENU joined the Country Gold Network as a simulcast partner alongside stations in Puyallup, Bellevue, and Olympia, Washington. That network collapsed financially in early 1996, leaving the station silent. In November 1996, the Green River Foundation acquired the dormant license and relaunched the station as a college operation, initially branded "Plateau Country," providing students with practical broadcast internship experience.
